The Division of Forestry and Natural Resources controls and schedules classes in three rooms in Percival Hall classified as teaching laboratories: 204, 308, and 317. All other classrooms in Percival Hall (315, 316, 332, 334, and 335) are administered by the WVU Office of Facilities Planning. These classrooms are used by other programs in the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design, the College of Human Resources and Education, and the College of Health and Physical Education. Division classrooms in 308 and 317 have been recently renovated. Likewise, the University performed extensive renovations to 332 in 2008. Plans are in the works to renovate and reconfigure 315 and 316 during the summer of 2009.

Most wood science classes are taught in 204 Percival Hall. The classroom was originally designed as a wood anatomy lab without windows and still serves that purpose as well as being the location for teaching most classes in the wood science curriculum. We have been concerned about the deteriorating condition as well as the limited seating capacity in 204 for a number of years.

Outdoor-related classes can use a variety of nearby areas such as the Core Arboretum, the West Virginia University Research Forest, the University Farm Woodlot, and Coopers Rock State Forest.

Any classroom or lab is available for larger groups to use when not being used for instructional purposes. Meeting rooms are also available in the new Division of Forestry and Natural Resources Westvaco Natural Resources Center, Evansdale Library, and the Mountainlair Student Union on the Downtown Campus. Students find adequate study space in the Evansdale Library, while some use the much larger spaces of the Mountainlair or the Wise Library on the Downtown Campus.

The Division also has two conference rooms for conferences and meetings. The large conference room has a conference table for 12 people and additional seating for 18. There is ample room for extra seating as necessary. The second conference room is for smaller, more personal and private meetings, seating from two to eight people. Both rooms may be reserved by the faculty and/or students by logging on to the Division’s room reservation website.
